Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  • What is the difference between a psychiatrist and psychologist?
    • This question is commonly asked. Psychiatrists are qualified medical doctors who have pursued further training in mental illness. They specialise in the assessment and diagnosis of mental disorders and can prescribe medications.
    • Psychologists in clinical practice usually have trained for 6-8 years and have a masters or doctorate in psychology with an arts or science background. They are trained in assessment and providing therapy and do not prescribe medications.
  • Is stress bad for me?
    • This will depend on how much stress we are talking about. Some stress is good for us. It motivates us to achieve and perform at an optimal level. Too little stress and we feel understimulated and can become bored and frustrated.
    • However, if we are experiencing a high level of stress for long periods of time our performance deteriorates and this can have a detrimental effect on our emotional and physical well-being.
  • How can you help me?
    • We work with you to develop a shared understanding of your current situation and provide practical tools and strategies to help you address any areas of concern. We value working in partnership with you to reach your full potential.
